react.com
I designed and built the react.com site in the summer of 2001.

react.com was a high-profile teen site aimed at 13-17 year-olds. I designed and developed the most recent site from the bottom up, and wrote and edited many pieces of audience-appropriate content. The site was based on different kinds of question-and-answer activities, such as quizzes, polls, and advice; much of the content was supplied by the users themselves, and at its best the site provided an important forum in which teens could speak their minds and ask the questions they wouldn't or couldn't offline.
The site ran on an ASP platform with a SQL Server 7 backend. In addition to designing and building the public site, I created a range of flexible, database-driven administration tools to facilitate site maintenance.
Sadly, react.com finally shut its virtual doors with the rest of the new economy in January, 2003. It's been up sporadically since, but hasn't been maintained.
